LA VIE INTÉRIEURE

In La vie intérieure, Julie-Ann Déry plunges into the raw brutality of the insect world through an intricate, entirely hand-crafted animation built from layers upon layers of superimposed images. When she invited me to compose the score, I sought to navigate between two dimensions the film inhabits simultaneously: the surreal, dreamlike quality of its visual aesthetic, and the creeping darkness of its narrative. The music opens suspended and orchestral, hovering at the edge of stillness, before gradually darkening and turning rhythmic as the story builds toward its climax.
